Technical Leadership
I own the technical direction on the projects I work on - shaping the approach, coordinating developers, and keeping delivery on track. I act as the bridge between technical teams, business stakeholders, and external technology partners, and I've line-managed and mentored engineers while staying hands-on in the code.
Architecture & Systems Design
I design and implement back-end architecture for modern, scalable products - event-driven systems built on asynchronous messaging, microservices that stay decoupled and easy to extend, and the data models behind them. I choose the right building blocks for each problem rather than reaching for the trendy one.
Azure Cloud Engineering
I build cloud-native solutions on Azure - containerised workloads on AKS and Container Apps, serverless Functions, and asynchronous messaging with Service Bus. I handle configuration with App Configuration and secure everything with managed identities and Entra External ID, designing for reliability and cost from day one so systems scale without surprises.
APIs & Integrations
I build well-structured REST APIs and connect systems to the third-party platforms a business runs on - including Stripe, DocuSign, Dynamics 365, and SharePoint - through their APIs and webhooks. I handle the awkward edge cases so integrations stay reliable, secure, and maintainable.
Engineering Quality
I write clean, testable code and back it with a solid test suite - xUnit, FluentAssertions, and friends. I set the bar through code reviews, track down performance problems, and use OpenTelemetry and Application Insights to understand how systems actually behave in production.
Delivery & DevOps
I build the CI/CD automation that gets code to production safely - Azure DevOps pipelines, Docker, and infrastructure that supports frequent, low-risk releases. I work in agile teams alongside product managers and front-end engineers, and I use AI tooling to ship faster without cutting corners.
